Stop Using AI to Create Your Business Photos (Because… It’s Not Actually You)
AI is everywhere right now...
AI headshots. AI branding photos. AI offices that don’t exist.
AI versions of people looking suspiciously perfect whilst holding a laptop and laughing at absolutely nothing.
And honestly? I get the appeal.
It’s quick. It’s cheap. It looks polished (too polished).
But here’s the problem…
It’s not you.
Your business is built on trust and connection. Whether you’re a florist, personal trainer, therapist, accountant, café owner or creative business, people want to know who they’re buying from before they enquire.
And honestly? No matter how polished AI images become, people can usually tell when something isn’t real. Sometimes they can’t even explain why. They just know something feels a little bit off. The smile looks strange. The lighting feels fake. The background almost looks real… but not quite.
And if I’m being completely honest? AI business photos can sometimes come across as a little lazy. Especially when your clients are looking for genuine human connection.
People do not want to connect with a fake AI version of you sitting in a fake office.
They want to connect with you...The real person behind the business. That’s why real branding photography still matters so much.
When someone lands on your website or Instagram, your photos are often the very first impression they get of your business. Before they read your prices, before they enquire and before they decide whether they trust you enough to book.
Real photographs tell people:
“This is who I am.”
“This is my business.”
“This is the person you’ll actually be working with.”
And that human connection is something AI simply cannot recreate properly.
“But I Hate Having My Photo Taken…”
Honestly? Nearly everybody says this to me before a shoot ... I think most of us are still traumatised from school photos. Standing awkwardly in front of a strange blue background whilst someone aggressively told you to “smile naturally” for approximately three seconds before sending you back to maths class.
A branding shoot should feel absolutely nothing like that.
My sessions are relaxed and fun. We chat, wander around, laugh at the awkward moments and usually end up forgetting there’s even a camera involved half the time.
You do not need to know how to pose. That's where my skills come in!
And you definitely do not need to become a weird AI-generated LinkedIn robot version of yourself.
Honestly, most people leave saying:
“That was actually really fun. I can't wait to book again!” .
The Experience Matters Too
This is the part people forget when they compare real photography to AI.
A photoshoot is not just about ending up with nice pictures at the end of it.
The experience itself matters too.
There’s something genuinely lovely about taking time out for yourself, getting dressed up, having somebody hype you up for an hour and leaving feeling confident and fabulous afterwards.
A good branding shoot should make you feel:
Confident.
Empowered.
Excited about your business again.
You simply do not get that from uploading a selfie into an AI generator alone at your laptop.
There’s no laughter. No encouragement. No conversation. No human interaction.
And honestly? Human interaction is such a huge part of why branding photography works in the first place. In addition, during the session, we actually chat! We talk business, and always feel inspired..you may even leave with new ideas!
People buy from people.
AI Has Its Place… But Not Here
Now don’t get me wrong, I actually use AI tools myself in parts of my workflow. AI can be brilliant for brainstorming ideas, helping with organisation and improving efficiency.
But when it comes to representing you and your business?
Nothing replaces real photography.
Because your future clients are not connecting with pixels and algorithms.
They’re connecting with your personality.
Your smile.
Your energy.
Your story.
And that genuine human connection will always mean far more than a quickly generated AI version of you that doesn’t truly reflect who you are or what your business is about.
